The wine

Phuc our private sommelier, brought three bottles of wine carefully selected from his outstanding collection. By the way the third bottle, the 2001 Deudi Di San Gregorio was a Magnaum bottle so it is actually equal to two bottles for a total of four bottles all together.

Spectator Review: "Wonderful aromas of ripe fruit, Indian spices and mineral. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a plush structure that caresses every inch of your palate. Really fine and fabulous. Much better than from barrel. Best ever from this estate. Best after 2010

1995 Chateau Angelus, St Emilion

Appellation: St. Émilion Grand Cru

A superb effort in this vintage, Angelus's opaque purple-colored 1995 is a massive, powerful, rich offering with plenty of ripe, sweet tannin. The wine's aromatics include scents of Provencal olives, jammy black cherries, blackberries, truffles and toast. A very full-bodied wine, it is layered, thick, and pure. This is the most concentrated of the 1995 St.-Emilion premier grand crus. Anticipated Maturity: 2002-2025.

Robert Parker rating: 98 points! “Impenetrable and inky, staggeringly rich in both aromas and flavors, offers ultra-ripe but perfectly fresh berry fruit, cloves, cinnamon, and chocolate, and mouth-coating, deep-pile tactile sensations which combine iron power and an enveloping, voluptuous texture, infinitely deep and long. I would be amazed if this wine did not last thirty years

Note from Phuc: believed it or not, this is the fifth time we drank it, and every time it was always everyone's favorite. It came from Spencer birth year collection, too bad for him there's only one left now!

Note: Did you know that the 1995 Chateau Angelus was Bond's choice in the new James Bond Casino Royal? New agent 007(Daniel Craig), meets his Bond girl (Eva Green) in the Casino Royal in Montenegro. A charming face to face meeting overcome by a bottle of 1995 Château Angélus!

Note: Boulevard allows two bottles per reservation. What a dilemma, we had 3 bottles! Phuc sweet talk John, the sommelier to make an exception to the rule. John (grumpy guy) reluctantly agreed to let us open the 3rd bottle. To show John our appreciation, Phuc invited him to sample our wine and by the end of the evening John came back to our table and mentioned that our wine was the best he had of the evening! That was a real compliment coming from grumpy John. He also asked Phuc to give him a call the next time we are coming.

We ordered 4 type of desserts to share amongst us.

I found the desserts to be good but not exceptional! However they did an excellent job with the presentation (eye candy).

So far with our dining experience, the best desserts we had was at Watercress but unfortunately the restaurant no longer exist.

The evening at Boulevard was a very good experience and we will definitely come back. The next time it will be with the whole gang and hopefully we will be able to reserve the private room.
