Phnom Penh -
Day 2 - Koh Ohnha Tey Island
Our ferry is arriving on the shore to take us to Koh Ohnha Tey island a picturesque island surrounded by lush jungle and rolling hills.
It is a small ferry for locals mostly.
Getting on the ferry.
Walking our bike on to the ferry
This is a really quick ferry ride to the Koh Ohnha Tey island. The ride is maybe 10 minutes.
View of the city from the ferry.
The boat stopped at the bank of the river and we are getting off the ferry.
We passed by a lot of beautiful pagodas and we went through small villages..
We stopped by a local Pagoda
There was nobody there as the Pagoda is frequently by mostly local people.
The pagoda was closed so we only get to see the exterior.
There are a lot of sculpture depicting daily life of the locals.
Sculpture of a couple going to work in the field and holding their lunch in a lunch container.
Next we stopped by a huge park with lots of Buddhist statues.
The park was very peaceful. Sitting Buddha in gold
Large sitting Buddha
Large sitting Buddha with people praying and making offerings.
Close view of the statue.
The park is really big.
Lots of statues on the premises.
A Bayan tree, they grown throughout Cambodia and they can reach a height of 100ffet.
We passed by a reclining Buddha. It is under repair at this time but we can still see it through the building scaffold.
We also stopped by a Tofu skin factory. Soy beans are dried out under the sun on the floor and above you can see tofu skin drying out on metal racks
Our tour guide explaining how tofu skin are made.
Big pots with simmering tofu milk. The skin is formed on the surface and it is scooped up and hang to dry.
Charcoal stove underneath.
Next we stopped a small area with local restaurants for lunch. Our tour guide already made all the arrangements for us.
Lunch time!
Lunch was a traditional family style meal with pork Amok with an assortment of vegetable. Stir fried mixed vegetables with white rice.
Our guide serving us a traditional Cambodian soup.
We had an exhausting day cycling through the island and were all happy to have a hot meal.
After lunch we headed to the ferry to take us back to the city.
The ferry just stopped and people are getting off the ferry.
Last leg of the trip. We returned our bike and said goodbye to everyone. Overall it was a very good experience but it was really tiring! As usual we were the oldest but we actually did better that one lady that was in her 40's. She almost gave up but Hoa talked to her and stayed back with her to help her and encourage her to keep going. The hard part was the heat and the humidity which make it difficult. Most of the roads we took were pretty primitive and difficult to get through but there are also paved roads so overall it was quite an experience.
This is still part of the tour, a Tuk Tuk was arranged for us to take us back to our hotel. It was actually quite far as the whole ride was at least 40 minutes long.
As soon as I got off the tuk tuk, I told Hoa that I having excruciating cramps in my inner thighs and I could not even make one step. It was so painful that I had to sit down for a good 15 minutes before I could walk again. I think I made the mistake of not drinking enough water throughout the whole trip and it was probably dehydrated.
