Dubrovnik-Day 3-City walls-5/13-/2019

At this point we are walking above the old port.

This portion of the wall is really close to people's house because we are approaching the portion of the Old City with lots churches.

This is the roof top of an apartment complex.. must be nice to sit out here in the summer.

The dome you see at the end of the picture is the Dubrovnik Cathedral.

The bell tower on the left and the street below is the Stradun.

This an older roof as you can see it is faded.

This is St. Dominic Street and this the back side of the Dominican Monastery.

St Dominic street view from above.

Now you can really see the difference in the colors and the age of the roofs.  Of course, the brighter one are the most recent and the oldest are the dark one with mold.

We are now leaving the old port.

Part of the Old City from above

We are now headed to Minceta tower (in the distance).

Because of the rain, there are really not a lot of people walking the City Walls.

New roof vs. older roof.

View outside of the Old City

What a view!

Looking at the Old port and fort S. John

Fort Bokar in the distance.

Interesting that they have a grape-bearing vines between houses.

Did not realized it but after looking closely, we recognized the place.  It is Lady Pi-Pi, the restaurant that we could not get in because of the rain.

Clearly, all the tables are set up on the terrace so if the weather is not right they have to close it because there are no protection from the rain.

As you look down at the town, notice the patchwork of colors formed by the red roofs. Some are brand-new and some are centuries-old. The shelling of 1991 left gaping holes Dubrovnik's distinctive terra cotta roofs. Some were repaired with tiles from a factory in Slovenia, some came from Agen, France but most were produced in northern Croatia.

Next...Minceta tower
