Three weeks in New Zealand - 4/12 - 5/4/2024
Day 3-Auckland at night-4/14/2024
Downtown Auckland at night
High rise buildings in the city center.
Queen street is a major commercial in the Auckland CBD. In New Zealand downtown is called CDB (Central business district).
The Auckland Chief Post Office is an imposing public
building at the foot of Queen Street, the main commercial thoroughfare in the
city. Built in 1909-1912, it indicates the importance of the postal service as
a state-run network for public welfare and communication. It was
heralded as a milestone in the progress of the city, and opened by the Prime
Minister, William Massey (1856-1925), in front of a crowd of 8,000-10,000
people in 1912.
In 1992 the Post Office closed and the building fell
into a state of disrepair. In 1995 Auckland City Council purchased the
building as part of the plan for a downtown transport interchange. Following
refurbishment of the east-facing part of the building, it was reopened in 2003
as the main entrance to the Britomart Transport Center.
The historic Auckland Ferry terminal is located on Quay street at Queen in downtown Auckland.
The building was designed by Alex Wiseman and
completed in 1912. Thanks to later renovations, done from 1986-1988, the Ferry
Building is still serving as the Auckland Harbor ferry terminal.

Waitemata Harbor is where all the ferries are departing from.

The pier.
I love the reflection of the lights on the water and the moon shining above.
We are now on of the quay after leaving the Ferry building.
