The striped pig, Redwood city -8/27/2016
The striped pig is a Gastro pub located in Redwood City. It is named after an ingenious idea from a rum seller to stay in business during the Prohibition. To keep his business afloat, the rum seller painted his pig in stripes, put the pig in a tent and charged admission to see it, with each ticket purchased entitling patrons to a free mug of rum.
While there’s no free rum at The Striped Pig, the gastro pub has a menu that changes “every couple of weeks or so,” with a focus on craft cocktails and California cuisine, tapas-style.
The Striped pig opened their door on October 2015 and by February 2016 they won "Best New Restaurant in 2016 Readers Choice Award"

Store front with outside seating.
As soon as you walk in the restaurant there is a huge bar in the center on the restaurant.
The gastro pub is cozy at 49 seats and has a friendly and welcoming vibe.
We had the best table in the restaurant, right at the entrance against the main window looking out into the street. |
The menu changes every couple of weeks... |
We were the first to arrive at the restaurant so while waiting Hoa ordered an Old Fashion cocktail.
Minh also ordered a cocktail but I can't remember the name.
Hoa, Minh and Tuan
Maily, Loan and I
Small group this time as we wanted to check out how good the Striped Pig before we advertise it to the group.
WINGS -$8
JERK SEASONING, ROASTED GARLIC SALSA VERDE
FRIES- $6
PASTRAMI SPICE AIOLI
Very good fries! crispy on the outside, soft and
creamy in the inside.
CHARCUTERIE - $20
COUNTRY PATE, FOIE TORCHON, HEADCHEESE,
MUSTARD, PICKLES, MOSTARDA, BREAD
Kudos to the chef! The foie gras au torchon was delicious! We also found out that all the cold cut were cured in house and everything on cutting board were top notch quality and really delectable.
GRILLED OCTOPUS -$15
CORN PUDDING, MOLE, MUSTARD GREENS
Corn puree was excellent, the only complaint was the octopus was a bit overcooked.
PORK BELLY - $14
ZUCKERMAN’S FARM MELON, MALINDA’S HEIRLOOM TOMATOES, FRISEE, PUMPKIN SEED OIL VINAIGRETTE, TOASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS
BURGER -$12
SESAME BUN, TOMATO BACON MARMALADE, CHEDDAR,
BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES, ICEBERG
We were told that burger is always on the menu so we gave it try and we did not like it. The marmalade was too sweet and it overwhelmed the whole burger.
FLAT IRON STEAK -$20
DUCK FAT POTATOES, OVEN DRIED TOMATO,
RED WINE JUS
This is a really good dish! We all like it and it is priced so reasonably.
The duck fat potatoes are so delicious, they cooked the meat properly and all the ingredients goes well together.
CAVATELLI -$15
CHANTERELLE MUSHROOM, ZUCCHINI, CHERRY
TOMATOE, PARMESAN, FRIED GARLIC
This is homemade cavatelli but somehow the sauce et the vegetables combination did not meet my expectation.
It is just an okay dish - I'll skip it next time.
We came back with the whole group a second time and Spencer, Nicky, and Alex also joined us.
They could not fit all of us in our table, so the 3 of them got a separate table. They all enjoyed the food.
DESSERTS/COFFEE
BUTTERMILK PANNA COTTA - $8
BERRIES JAM, BROWN BUTTER MILK CRUMBLE
Love, love, love this panna cotta! Perfectly balanced between sweet/sour/richness.
HARD ROOTBEER
FLOAT -$8
BUTTER PECAN GELATO, WHIPPED CREAM, CHOCOLATE SHAVINGS
Everybody gave a big thumb up for this dessert. I cannot handle root beer so I did not try it.
