Dubrovnik-Day 2-Old City-5/12/2019

Old port

We are back at the Old Port to show Kevin how scenic this place is.

The old Port is well known as a part of th e15th century fortification and once acted as a hub for Dubrovnik's trading fleet from all over the world.  Today, the Old Port is mostly used by local fishermen and as a dock for charming replicas of large merchant ships from Ragusa (now Dubrovnik).

On the right hand side, you can see fort St John which is the most dominant part of the Harbor which one served as a guarding against pirates and other enemy ships.

The fort is the first quadrangular pier tower build in 1346 in order to protect the city's Harbor.

The building with the 3 arches used to be the old arsenal and was built in the 12th century, but the outer arches were widened several times due to the gradual increase in the size of the ships. It is now a restaurant also called the Arsenal with wonderful view of the bay.

On the opposite, the area today occupied by the restaurant "Arsenal" used to be the large arsenal, where the state galleons were built repaired and stored when not on their voyages.

The water was a bit choppy due the rain and I was able to capture a few photos with the waves splashing against the walkway.

Lokrum island in front.  A lot of scenes are also filmed on the Island.

The only way to get to Lukrum Island is by boat.  It about 15 minutes via boat from the Old port.  We never made it there.

We are on the back side and this the furthest away.

Bird eye view of the old port.

Dubrovnik and Lokrum island

We are heading to Lady Pi-pi, a very popular restaurant located high above town.  You really have to climb up so many stairs.

I have to rest briefly as the stairs are no narrow and small but I made it to the top.

Look on the right, just in front sits high above a statue of Lady Pi-Pi named for a comical, anatomically correct and it is bit disturbing to see it.

They do no take reservation so you have to show up early to get a table.

Unfortunately for us, they were closed due to the rain.  I looked inside and all the tables are set on the patio so there are no coverage for rain.

We now have to go down all the way since the restaurant is closed.

Plan B, find another restaurant.

Next.....Dinner/Wine Bar
