Kotor, Montenegro -5/17/2019

From Perast we drove to Kotor, a costal city located in a secluded part of the gulf of Kotor.

The drive to Kotor was supposed to be only 17 minutes but 5 minutes into our trip there is a huge traffic jam at the town of Ljuta.

We got stuck here for a good 20 minutes and then we started to move very slowly.

Then we saw a black RSU (on the left) the front was totally wrecked.

Luckily, we were able to drive away on our lane.  The other side of the road was not as lucky as you can see they were at a stand still.

Here you can see how the RSU got damaged in the accident but we did not see anybody get hurt.

Panoramic view of Kotor.

If you look back at our pictures in Perast you will see these cruise boats navigating navigating from Perast to Kotor.

We parked our car at a parking lot and this is the view of the pier right at the beginning of the town.

The is the beginning of the pier and the old town is just straight ahead.

Kotor is surrounded by mountains an the bay on the opposite side.

A town on the other side of the bay of Kotor.

Kotor is know for remarkable scenic views.

We are now walking toward the old town.

Unfortunately for us this cruise ship is ready to release thousand of tourists into Kotor.

We made the decision not to stick around as it will be filled with tourists and it will be impossible to move around.

This is part of the old town that is surrounded by a fortification wall.

Inside the fortification is a main square filled with boutiques and shops.

The fortifications of Kotor is a system that protected the medieval town of Kotor containing ramparts, towers, citadels, gates, bastions, forts, cisterns, a castle, and ancillary buildings and structures. The old town and the fortifications were inscribed in the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

There is also a city wall going up to the top of the mountain.  If you are fit you can definitely climb up but I heard it is a rough hike up.

We only stayed here for many 30 minutes as we know the tourists are preparing to descend Kotor and so we quickly drove off.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the old city was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and is filled with medieval architecture and historic monuments.

Leaving Koto to Budva.
