Three weeks in New Zealand - 4/12 - 5/4/2024

Day 2- A day in Auckland-4/13/2024

Auckland Ferry Terminal and the Harbors

This morning we are headed to the Auckland Ferry Terminal to meet with our tour guide for a city tour.

We are walking toward Quay street located on the waterfront.

The historic Ferry building is a yellow Edwardian Baroque Building on Quay St at Queens in downtown Auckland. The building was designed by Alex Wiseman and completed in 1912. Thanks to later renovations, done from 1986-1988, the Ferry Building is still serving as the Auckland Harbor ferry terminal.

The back of the building is located on the Waitemata harbor with many shops and restaurants.

The beautifully designed Sandstone and Brick building sits in striking contrast to the many modern skyscrapers. The saturated colors make the building pop-out.

Our tour guide was going to meet with us at the entrance of the Harbor.

We waited for a good 10 minutes but he never showed up and then I got a text saying the tour was cancelled.  Since we are already here we are just going to walk around the harbor.

The Waitematā Harbor is the main access by sea to Auckland. The harbor forms the northern and eastern coasts of the Auckland isthmus and is crossed by the Auckland Harbor Bridge.

Gorgeous view of the harbor.

On the right is the ferry terminal and on the right is the Wynyard quarter which is a reclaimed piece of land on the waitemata harbor at the western edge of the Auckland waterfront

We are now at the Viaduct Harbor Marina

Viaduct Harbor Marina is located in the heart of Auckland’s inner city waterfront.

Lots of expensive yachts are docked here at the Viaduct harbor.

The harbor is really gorgeous.

Lots of beautiful yachts on the harbor.

Walking around the Viaduct harbor.

There are lots of nice restaurants and shops in front of the harbor.

The water is beautiful and the harbor is simply beautiful.

Walkway with a clear glass divider at the end for safety reason.

Here I am leaning against the glass divider.  It is actually really cool.

We are now leaving the Harbor and headed to Sky Tower.
