Singapore - 8/07

After a two weeks vacation in Vietnam, Hoa flew to Singapore over the week-end for a quick tour before heading to India for a business trip.

Singapore is an island nation located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore was founded as a British trading colony in 1819 and joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963 but separated two years later and became independent and became one of the world's most prosperous countries with strong international trading links (its port is one of the world's busiest in terms of tonnage handled) and with per capita GDP equal to that of the leading nations of Western Europe.  The population is just over 4 million, and around 77.2% are Chinese, 14.1% Malay and 7.4% Indian. The remaining 1.3% comprises of people from all over the world who have chosen to make Singapore their home.

Singapore has a total land area of 699 km²(about 270 square miles) and 193 km (129 Miles) of coastline and is the smallest country in Southeast Asia. It is separated from Indonesia by the Singapore Strait and from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor

Closer look at the Boat Quay area.   Lots of restaurants, and coffee shops lining the side of the street.  Looking ahead is the Financial district.

Orchard road is the retail and entertainment area. There are a lot of expensive shops such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Furla, etc...It is regularly frequented by the local population as well as being a major tourist attraction.
