Dinner at Plumed Horse on Christmas eve - 12/24/10

The restaurant The food Dessert and coffee

Coffee and Dessert!

We are now at the end of our meal!  The restaurant was packed but our waiter managed to give us very good service.  While waiting for our desserts, Hoa and I we ordered coffee.

The coffee was strong and good.

I went with the Grand Marnier soufflé with praline Anglaise sauce.

The soufflé was good but it is a bit on the sweet side.

Hoa selected the Chocolate Fondant with vanilla semi-Freddo and macadamia nuts.

The vanilla semi-Freddo was very good!  Hoa was too full so he took home the Chocolate Fondant which we had the next day.  I was not very good the next!  I am sure it tasted a lot better on the day it was served.

Close look at the chocolate fondant dessert.

Kevin does not like dessert so he opted for cheese and selected the English Stilton cheese with port wine quince jelly and graham cracker.

Summary: The three of us walked of the restaurant and felt that the food did not meet our expectations.  Basically the food was good but it definitely did not have any WOW factor!  Chef Peter Armellino's Christmas menu felt like he is playing it safe and did not take any risksHowever, the restaurant is beautiful, the wine list was very impressive and we also got excellent service, but I wish the food could be have been a notch above!  Plumed Horse got a 1 star Michelin and I guess we have very high expectation and the food did let us down.  Hoa and Kevin keep saying" "Mom your food is a lot better" with that I replied but  the nice thing about eating out is you have people serving you so you can just sit down and enjoy a meal in a nice atmosphere.  Since I entertained quite often and our standard is quite high it is pretty hard to amaze us unless your name is Thomas Keller from the French Laundry.
