Day 2-Dinner at Ot Hiem-1/28/2025
Tonight was our last evening in Nha Trang, and we headed to dinner at Ot Hiem. .

During Tet, many restaurants and family-run businesses close so people can celebrate with their loved ones, so we felt fortunate to find this restaurant open. Known for serving traditional Vietnamese home-style dishes, Ot Hiem focuses on simple recipes made with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors rather than elaborate presentations.

As soon as we stepped inside, we were impressed by the restaurant's warm and inviting interior. The space blended traditional Vietnamese touches with modern design, featuring warm wood furnishings, soft lighting, exposed brick, lush greenery, and tasteful decorative details that created a cozy yet elegant atmosphere. Our table overlooked a small pond at the back of the restaurant, where the peaceful water and surrounding plants made for a relaxing setting throughout the meal. The restaurant had a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

View from the outside of the dinning room.

The room was buzzing with conversations and people enjoying their meal.

Before the main dishes arrived, the staff brought out a selection of pickled vegetables, bean sprouts, carrots, chili peppers, small round Vietnamese eggplants, and mustard greens served alongside five different dipping sauces.

It was a wonderful way to awaken our appetites and experience the variety of flavors that accompany a traditional Vietnamese meal.

Our dinner soon followed with a bitter melon sautéed with scrambled eggs.

This is a traditional dish that might be difficult to eat if you are not used to the bitter melon.

Simple dish but I really like it.

A beautiful thit kho served bubbling in a clay pot.

The thit khot has a lot of fat but that how it is traditionally.

The meal wasn't fancy, but it didn't need to be. Every dish was comforting, full of flavor, and beautifully prepared. It was the perfect farewell dinner, ending our time in Nha Trang with the kind of authentic Vietnamese home cooking that we needed.

After dinner, we took one last leisurely walk back to our hotel along the seaside promenade on Trun Phú Street. The evening was magical. Red lanterns hung from the trees lining the walkway, glowing softly in the night and creating a beautiful festive atmosphere as Nha Trang prepared for Tet.

A little farther along, we came across a street vendor grilling fresh lobsters over glowing charcoal. The irresistible aroma drew a crowd, and many people stopped to watch and take photos of the impressive display before continuing their evening stroll.

Looking across the street, the center divider was lined with tall, pine-like trees draped in cascading white lights that shimmered against the night sky.

Combined with the red lanterns, the decorations gave the entire boulevard a warm and joyful holiday feeling.

Continuing our walk down on Trun Phú Street.

As we neared our hotel, we passed a Starbucks on the corner, backed by a tall building illuminated against the night sky.

The modern city lights blended beautifully with the traditional Tet decorations, making it a fitting final scene on our last night in Nha Trang. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful stay in this vibrant coastal city.
