Spring awakens cherry trees from dormancy.  In the winter cherry trees are in dormant state to protect themselves from the low temperatures and lack of sunlight. Once temperatures begin to rise and the days lengthen, the cherry tree emerges from its dormant state and begins growing again. Producing blooms in the spring in preparation for putting out cherries. Blossoms attract bees and beneficial insects to the tree and allow them to pollinate the flowers, encouraging the development of fruit. Cherry trees produce leaves in the spring as well.

We have tree cherry trees all together, two trees are located in the front yard and the third tree is in the backyard!  This year two of our cherry trees yield out so many fruits that I have to give most of them away! 

This tree is the smallest of the three cherry tree and it is located in front of the lawn.  Cherry blossoms last about a month or so and then the leaves will grow.

A few months later.... cherry blossoms are replaced by cherries...

This tree is located in the back yard and I am picking the cherries....

So many cherries this year......

It took me a while to pick them just a few buckets.

This is only a fraction of what I got....

I think in the end I ended with 6 buckets full of cherries....

Of course I gave away most of it... There is no way we can eat them all.

We have Jack rabbits running freely in our neighborhood so I am pretty sure they are eating the cherries that are falling on the ground.  The birds and the squirrels also help themselves to the cherries on the tree.  Next year, I will buy a net a cover the tree so the birds and squirrels can not eat them.
