Tasting Meny & a la carte Desserts

Tonight we are making a special trip with our friends to San Francisco (about 1 hour of drive from our house) to dine at AME. Ame is a one Michelin star restaurant located at the corner of Third and Mission streets within the St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco. The first thing I asked when I got to the restaurant is the meaning of AME (pronounce "amei") and I found out it meant "rain" in Japanese!

AME's cuisine is described on their website as seasonal menu which reflects what Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani called "personal cuisine", a refined blending of local ingredients with the flavors of southern France and northern Italy, filtered through Hiro's Japanese culinary sensibilities and inspired by the couple's passionate pursuit of exceptional dining.
After I read the description I have to say I was intrigued by the fusion of Southern France, northern Italy, and Japanese cuisine.  I never had a combination of 3 types of cuisine together so this will be a new experience. I also noted that AME received the prestigious "Michelin Star" for 5 years in a row (2008-2012).  If you are not familiar with the Michelin Star ranking, one star means "a very good cuisine in its category" and a Michelin Star is not easy to come by.  Click on LINK to see the 2012 Michelin list and note that there are only 39 restaurants in the Bay Area that was awarded a Michelin star.  Ame should be really proud of keeping their Michelin Star for 5 years in a row.

Minh and Loan dined at AME before and they like it and  they wanted to share the experience with all of us.

We got to the restaurant around 6:00PM and it we still have day light.

By the left we left it was around 11:30PM it was night time.

Peculiar lamp shape on the ceiling.

View of the restaurant from out table.

The dinning room has contemporary feel and the decor is minimalist but very nice.  The room is dimly lit and has a good atmosphere and right away it make all of us very comfortable.

Cocktail hour

While waiting for the remaining couples to arrive Minh and Hoa ordered some cocktails: Gin and Tonic (Tonic water, gin, and lime juice) and Sin Number Six (Blackwood’s Gin, Cucumber, Basil, Fresh Lime Juice, Simple Syrup & Sparkling Sake)

Cheers to the good life!

The whole group!

Our table was located at the end of the room and we occupied the length of the whole room. The dinning room was relaxed, elegant, and most of all we felt pretty comfortable making all the noises without bothering other patrons.
