Arrival-Cocktail Dinner

Originally we were told that the chef will be preparind a three course dinner for our party, but when we sat down and noticed that there are 9 dishes + 1 dessert and 1 mignardise written on the menu.
We thought we had to select an appetizer and a main dish but then our waitress explained that the menu listed was planned by the chef, and all 9 dishes will be served family style to the whole table.

Close look at the menu!

I like the title: " Oh dear, another year?

Hannah is our server tonight.

Warm marinate olive with roasted garlic, citrus peels, and rosemary.

Really nice!

Phuc brought two bottles of 2013 Paloma Merlot for the evening.

Plus 2 bottles of  Louis barthelemy rose champagne

Left: Phuc, Hoa, Ha, Trung, Maily and Jenna

Right: Huyen, Me, Hanh, Tuan, Tuan, and Nicky

Cheers to Ha and Maily!

Cheers....

Really good champagne!

Appetizers

Wood baked gigante beans, Feta, oregano pesto and breadcrumbs.

T

Little gem lettuce , nectarines, cucumbers, pecans and parmesan.

Simple salad with crispy fresh lettuce, ripe and sweet nectarines, crunchy cucumbers... I like it a lot!  Very refreshing salad.

Hoa asked for bread and this what was brought out.. A tower of bread topped with butter..

Rustic presentation... I love it!

Smoke beef brisket, purple beans, pink pearl applesauce and fried shallots.

Beautiful presentation!  The brisket is in house smoked and then BBQ .

Flatbread of Tasso spiced ham, sweet onions, pimientos de padron, farm egg and cheddar.

This is really tasty dish.  I could probably eat half this plate on my own...

Main course

House made parpadelle with 9 hours Bolognese sauce, arugula, peas and parmesan

The parpadelle are very tasty, al dente (perfectly the way I like it) with a tasty Bolognese sauce but a tad salty!

Grilled Broccoli, lemon an breadcrumbs!
Generous portion!

Country pork chop, cranberry and blue lake beans, mission figs and mustard vinaigrette.

This plate is for 12 people, that's plenty to go around.

We all agreed that the pork was moist and very tasty!

If it was me I probably will plate this dish differently as I want this dish to be pork chop dish.

I would put all the vegetables in the bottom and then pork chops on top and then arrange the figs randomly.  The way it is presented it looks more like the vegetables are the star and the pork chops are secondary.

Rotisserie herbed chicken, cucumbers, early girl tomatoes, hazelnut dukkah and red pepper feta.

We have different opinions about the chicken! some of us thought it was good but we have a few people saying the meat was on the dry side and the cumin was a bit overwhelming.

However, we were unanimous that the tomatoes were incredible sweet and tasty.

Almond torte, stone fruit, caramel and Chantilly cream.

Candles are lit for the two birthday girls!

Happy birthday Ha and Maily!

Time to blow the candle...

Ending our meal with a cup of coffee

We liked dark roasted coffee and here they use medium roast which yield and acidic taste.

Mint and dark chocolate truffle

Nopa is huge duplex of a restaurant with towering ceilings and an open kitchen that gives out a very friendly and hip vibe.  The place is buzzing with the 20-30-something crowd, full of energy and the bar is always crowded.   Nopa uses fresh local produce sourcing from Farmer's Market around the bay area and nearby food purveyors to give their customers the best ingredients.  Portion are very generous so come with an empty stomach!

Some dishes are better executed than others but overall we had a very good time here.
