Arashiyama, Kyoto
Arashiyama district is located on the northwest edge of Kyoto City and about a 15/20 minutes train ride from downtown Kyoto. This area is among the most popular sightseeing areas in Kyoto as there are many things to see and visit such at the Tenryuji Temple and the bamboo grove which we already visited the last time we were in Kyoto. There is also the Iwatayama Monkey park which we are headed to.

On the bridge...
Beautiful view from the bridge
The Togetsukyo is a 1508 ft. bridge built across the Katsura River. The first bridge here was built in 836, while the current one was finished in 1934. Although the bridge appears to be made of wood, its columns and beams are reinforced concrete, and only the low protective wall along the edge of the bridge are made from cypress wood.
Beautiful vista from this bench over looking the bridge, the river and the Arashiyama mountain.
The bridge has been a landmark in the Arashiyama district for over 400 year.
