San Francisco Dragon Boat Festival- 9/16/12

Arrival Walking around The race Food and view

After Kevin finished his first race Hoa and I we decided to leave as we did not want to spend the whole day there.  On our way back to the parking lot we saw a lot of vendors getting ready to prepare for lunch. We took these pictures around 9:30AM so people are beginning to set up and getting ready.

View of San Francisco from Treasure Island

Treasure Island is an artificial island in the San Francisco Bay between San Francisco and Oakland. The island is named after the novel Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Treasure Island was created in 1936 and 1937, from fill dredged from the bay, for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. The 535-acre (2.17 km2) man-made island then used to be owned by the U.S. Navy (obtained from the City of San Francisco due to US Naval war emergency needs on April 17, 1942), but was later sold to the city of San Francisco for $108 million as part of a redevelopment project. The island is set to begin a $1.5 billion redevelopment project in 2012 called the Treasure Island Development. The project plan will add up new residences, new commercial and retail space, and new office space, three Hotels, and 300 acres of parks.

This the view from the Parking lot!

What you see is part of San Francisco.

You can tell in this picture how big the sculpture is by seeing how small the guy is next to the sculpture.

"Bliss Dance," a 40-foot dancing woman sculpture created by artist Marco Cochrane is part of the Treasure Island Development Authority's public art policy.

Cochrane was born in Italy, raised in Northern California, and currently works out of a studio on Treasure Island.

Bliss Dance was described by city officials as "a marriage of classical sculpture technique and modern design."

It is a sculpture of a naked woman standing on one foot as she dances, hands in the air. The sculpture is lit by 1,000 LED and I am sure I night time she looks amazing!
