Day 5: Hongdae street-5/21/23

Hongdae street is located right in front of Hongik University which is one of the most prestigious fine art college in Seoul.

It all started about 30 years ago when the property prices in this area  were low so students from the Hongik University and young artists set up their ateliers around this area.  The creative vibe was enough to attract even more students in the area and soon small clubs and bars started to open. The area became extremely popular among young people. Even though these days, the art ateliers were almost completely replaced by shops, clubs and pubs the creative vibe is still in the air.

Lots of young people strolling down the street.

Lots of shops around this area.

Panoramic view of Hongdae street

Plenty of street food to choose from.

Coin bread with Mozzarella cheese is a street food shaped like a Korean 10-won coin.

Gyeongju’s 10-won bread (coin bread) was introduced by a street vendor in 2019 and the bread has become very popular on the street.

Green area for people to sit and relax.  You can eat you food here while watching people going by.

All the restaurants in this area are very busy.

A quaint restaurant in the neighborhood.

Shops along the main street.

I'm beautiful!

We were surprised to see a Marithe Francois Girbaud store in the area.  Marithe Francois Girbaud is a French Label that was very popular in the late 90's,

Fun atmosphere to walk around this area.

\

The stores are lively.

Young people are coming out at night to party.

We found a Vietnamese restaurant in the neighborhood.

High rise buildings around the neighborhood.

Time for us to catch the subway and get dinner.
