Zhonghua Gate continuation -4/1/23

There is a fascinating legend that explains the then name of Zhonghua Gate, the Gate of Gathering Treasures.

It is said that when Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang built the 1st gate in 1366, the ground kept sinking and the gate kept collapsing to the ground. Finally, when a treasure bowl was buried in the place did the gate stand firm.  Later on the gate was renamed the Zhonghua Gate in order to pay tribute to the revolution of 1911 which led to the formation of the Republic of China.

At night colorful artistic art design is projected on the wall.

With its thick walls, large arched entrance tunnels and inner courtyards designed to trap any enemy who dared to try to the breach this fortification, the Zhonghua Gate was an essential defensive structure. In fact, nobody ever tried to attack this gate, perhaps a testament to its imposing nature.
