3 Days in Lyon, France-5/26/2022 to 5-28/2022

Dinner at Daniel & Denise-5/28/2022

I selected Daniel & Denise because it was listed in the Michelin guide under "Bib Gourmand" and Located in the Vieu Lyon.

The restaurant is run by chef Joseph Viola who was award the title of "Meilleur ouvrier de France in 2004.

Daniel & Denise are known for typical Lyon style home cooking served by extremely courteous staff.

The entrance of the restaurant with many award plaques.

Against the wall is very long bar with wood paneling and has a really warm and friendly atmosphere.

The menu at 40 Euros for 3 course.

The second choice is the menu at 47 Euros also for 4 course and on the right is a list of the all the purveyors the restaurant is working with.

We selected the 1st option at 40 Euros per person.

Typical Bouchon table set up.

Embroidery table napkin.

Hoa ordered a bottle of red wine with the recommendation of our server.

View of the restaurant from our table.

For our first course I selected the House-made Terrine de Campagne with pistachio, onion chutney and a green salad.

Great pate!  So flavorful and so delicious.

The French really know how to make a great pate de Campagne.

Hoa selected Pate en croute with duck foie gras and sweetbreads.

This dish is one of the specialty of the house and it did not disappoint.

This dish is what earn him the crowning of world champion in 2009.  There is about 20 ingredients in this dish and garnished with a stuffing of veal, pork throat, poultry livers and trumpets of death (a special mushroom) that is yielding a golden pastry, wet with an enticing jelly, and stuffed generous pieces veal sweetbread, and duck Foie gras.

Both dishes were excellent.  Cheers to a very good start.

Our red wine were served in a tiny little glass and Hoa refuse to drink in it so he asked the server to give us a bigger glass.

We are a bit of a wine snob!

I selected the Sea bream, Vegetables from market with a tomato dressing.

Vibrant color with fresh vegetables and the Sea bream has a really nice texture.

Very good dish.

Hoa selected the Beef paleron confit like a daube, chopped tomatoes with olives.

This is comfort food at its best!

It came with a side of macaroni au gratin and fried potatoes in duck fat.

Very generous portion!

We both really enjoyed our meal.

For dessert I selected the bread pudding with rhubarb and strawberries coulis, and vanilla ice cream with lemon zest.

It is not too heavy so a great choice to end my meal.

Hoa selected an assortment of cheese.

All the cheese were delicious and Hoa enjoyed it a lot with a great glass of wine.

Coffee to go with my dessert.

We are done with our meal and we are now leaving the restaurant.

We had a very good meal here, great service too.

Lyon at night

After dinner we walk back to our apartment.

We passed by L'hotel de ville with the fountain of Bartholdi on place des Terreaux.

Streets of Lyon at night.

The river Saône at night is illuminated by colorful lights.

The basilica de Fouvrière and the Metallic tower of Fouvrière on  top of the hill.

Lyon is really beautiful at night.

Tonight was our last night in Lyon and we really enjoyed our stay here.  Lyon turned out to be a beautiful city, very clean, and the food was amazing.
