Notre Dame de Paris - Day 3 Con't

After Lunch at Hippopotamus, Den took both Kevins to le Quartier Latin (latin Quarter) in the 5th arrondissement.  The Latin Quarter is the oldest area in Paris.
Since the Middle Ages, the Latin Quarter has been an academic centre of knowledge and learning.   The Quartier Latin is home to a number of higher education establishments such as the University of Sorbonne,  École Normale Supérieure,  École des Mines de Paris , and the Jussieu university campus.

The west Facade of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame de Paris is a Gothic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in the 4th arrondissement of Paris.   Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in the world.  The boys could not get inside the cathedral because the line was so long so they just take pictures of the front.

In the center of the facade is the Portal of the Last Judgment in the  west façade.  It was built in the 1220s-1230s.

Le Jardin des Tuileries

Le Jardin des Tuileries is the oldest park in Paris and it is one of the most popular public gardens in Paris.   Le Jardin des Tuileries is situated between Place de la Concorde and le Louvre at the beginning of the Axe Historique.   It is one of the favorite stop for tourists on sightseeing tours. The garden is relatively small, about 60 acres,  but richly decorated, with impressive sculptures crafted by prominent names as Rodin, Coysevox, Giacometti, Jean Dubuffet and many others. The oldest works date back to the 18th Century and are located in the Place de la Concorde section of the park.

Large pond in Jardin des Tuileries.  As you can see the Jardin des Tuileries is carefully groomed.

When the sun comes out, the Parisians just go out to Park where they can soak in a few ray of sunshines.
