Cancale is a small port located in the western end of the bay of Mont Saint Michel on the Emerald coast and about 15 kilometers from Saint Malo.
It is a picturesque fishing port popular with visitors that are drawn by its reputation as the "oyster capital" of Brittany.
We arrived at the Port of Cancale when the tide was low.
An hour later you can see that the water is rising up.
As you can see the sea can retreat very far at low tide.
An hour later you can see that the water if rising and will cover this whole area at high tide.
Boats on the beach at low tide.
The boats on dry land when the sea is retreating at low tide.
You can clearly sea the boats floating now when the water is rising.
Within an hour or so the beach is almost covered in water.
Panoramic view.
We stopped by at L'atelier de L'huitre to taste some local oysters.
The oysters of Cancale are very one of the most renowned and known for their delicate iodized flavor. They are flat oyster and have a pronounced salty tang and hazelnut after taste.
You can choose the oysters according to their size from #5 to #0. The smaller the number, the bigger the size of the oyster.
Same of the oysters are enormous.
We ordered two types of oysters.
