Day 4- Sao Rafael Beach, Albufeira-5/14/2022

Set along the coast of Portugal famous Algarve region, Praia Sao Rafael (San Rafael Beach) showcased goldend sands and imposing limestone cliffs.

Praia Sao Rafaelis an iconic beach in Alfufeira and known for its beautiful rock formations and it is one of the top attraction in Albufeira.

We drove from Faro to Sao Rafael.  The distance is about 25 miles and it took us about 50 minutes to get there by car.

Sign leading to the Beach.

First, you land on a cliff overlooking the Beach.

This small beach has fine gold sand and crystal clear water and is backed by golden limestone cliffs.

Epic view from the top of the cliff.

Conquering the world!

View of the beach from above the cliff.

Hilly cliff, easy to climb with incredible views.

Path way going down to the beach.

Here you can see the beach toward the end of the picture.

There is a restaurant bar so it is really convenient.

When we got to the beach there were only a few people but 5 minutes later a bus dropped a bunch of people.

Here you can see like at least 50 people are coming down the ramp.

On the beach there are many limestone rock formations which have been eroded over a long period of time to form interesting formations and shapes many of which have names.

This rock formation is called Ponte Pequena, also known as the Small Bridge (left corner).

Here you can really see why they called it Small bridge.

On the left is a rock formation called Ninho das Andorinhas, also known as the Swallow’s Nest rock formation.

Here is a closer look at the Ninho das Andorinhas, also known as the Swallow’s Nest rock formation.

More rocks formation on the sandy beach.

I can only imagine how crowded this beach must be in the summer.

Right now we had pretty much the beach to ourselves.

I am walking toward the end of the beach and take a look what is there.

Half way there is a huge rock formation

Close look at the rock formation

This the same rock but it is viewed from a different angle

This is the same rock but over looking the cliff.

This toward the end of the beach.

Again, very pleasant as there were barely anybody there.

Here you can see the students trying to disperse and to find there own spot.

This area is for people who want to rent the sunbeds.

We are not beach people but this beach is really gorgeous and we really enjoyed staying here.

WE stayed less than an hour and it is time for lunch...

NEXT.... Day 5-Lunch at Rocha Palha, Armação de Pêra
