Our hotel is located is the Shinjuku area and about 5 minutes walk from Shinjuku station.

Mode Gakuen Cocoon tower is a 50 story educational facility in Shinjuku.

The building is 669 feet tall and is the 2nd tallest educational building in the world and was the 17th-tallest building in Tokyo.

Shinjuku is also very famous for its popular electronics retailers.

A row of Electronics stores.

The people you see sitting are waiting for a bus.

They have lots of benches for people to sit down while waiting for the bus.

Shinjuku at night.

Shinjuku is one of Tokyo's busiest entertainment districts and once the sun sets, the streets only get brighter.

Street packed with people with neon lit bar, restaurants, clubs, and shows.

It is a vibrant spot and really fun area to be in.

BicCamera is a major consumer electronics retailer featuring 6 floors where you will find a collection of specialty stores with cameras, personal computers, home appliances, smartphones, and more.

ABC Mart is a major fashion retail store

The house of Gucci.

In Japan, people go out to drink and eat after work so the streets are always full.

Lots of restaurants in this area.

More electronics stores.

The streets are bright and lively.

A store with Halloween decorations.

We are headed to Golden Gai, an area full of small bars.

Golden Gai

The beginning of Golden Gai area.

Golden Gai is composed of a network of six narrow alleys, connected by even narrower passage ways which are about wide enough for a single person to pass through.

Over 200 tiny shanty-style bars, clubs and eateries are squeezed into this area.

Bars in Golden Gai are known in particular for the artistic affinities of their patrons.

Most of the bar can hold 4 to 6 people and most of them do not let you in unless you are a member.

As you can see all the bars are very tiny.  The one of the rigt hold 3 people but you can probably squeeze in 1 more person.

This bar on the 2nd floor with a tiny and steep steps to get up.  Hoa checked it out and it was full with 5 people sitting in.

Golden Gai is well known as a meeting place for musicians, artists, directors, writers, academics and actors, including many celebrities.

Golden Gai was known for prostitution before 1958.

After prostitution became illegal, the neighborhood developed as a drinking area, and at least some of the bars can trace their origins back to the 1960s

We saw this bar right at the entrance of the Golden Gai area and it was large enough and they also welcome anybody.

Our waitress was from Russia and she loves the life in Japan.

This bar is considered very large for the area.  We also like it as we are not packed like sardines.

Cheers!
