Lunch at All'antico Vinaio

In 1989, the Mazzanti family opened the doors of the ancient vintner (Wine merchant).  Tommy joined the company in 2006 and in a short time transformed All'antico Vinaio into a reference point for the city of Florence and for Street food lovers from all over the world.

In 2014 it was the most reviewed place in the world on Tripadvisor and Italy for years.

We are headed toward Ponte Vecchio

It is lunch time so lots of restaurants have tables set up on the street.

We found the shops and we were so surprise that there is a very long line.

There are three All'Antico Vinaio on this street and there is a long line for all 3 shops.

They even hire security to help customers staying in line and making sure they do not block the street.

We are staying in line and waited probably 40 minutes to get our sandwiches.

This guy is delivering the special bread to all 3 stores. It is salty and crunchy, its name is schiacciata. Baked daily and as fresh as can be

The shop is very small and narrow and can only fit maybe less than 10 customers at the time.

All kind of sausage, prosciutto, mortadella and salami, etc...

Huge piece of lard.

On the left is Porchetta, salami and a lot more...

Butter, mayonnaise, soft cheese, etc...

The workers making sandwiches to go.

The bread is cut it in two halves and fill it with cold cuts, cheese, vegetables and some spread.

We put our order in we are now waiting for them to make it.

We finally got our sandwiches.  They are huge!

On the left is the Summer sandwich: ham with mozzarella cheese, fresh tomato and basil - 7 Euros

On the right is the Inferno sandwich: Tuscan pork with spice cream, grilled vegetables, rocket salad - 8 Euros

We ended throwing the top portion of the bread as the sandwich was too big and there is not way we can finish it.

Both sandwich was delicious and so cheap.  No wonder the line is so long.

One sandwich can easily feed 2 people.  Portion is way too generous.

There is no place to sit around to eat so people just sit where ever they can and it is also really fun.

NEXT.... Day 2-Santa Maria del Fiore Basilica
