Vernazza

Vernazza is the 4th fishing village headed north and remains one of the truest fishing villages on the Italian Riviera.  It is the only natural port and is famous for its elegant houses.

The village is surround by very steeply-terrace olive groves which are said to produce among the finest olive in the country.

Today the main source of revenue for Vernazza is tourism. However, as a testimony to the strength of centuries-old tradition, fishing, wine and olive oil production still continue.

We took the train from Riomaggiore (the 1st village) and it is about a 10 minutes train ride from Riomaggiore.

From the train station this is the only pedestrian road leading to the port.

Via Roma the main road in the lower part on Vernazza.

Colorful houses along the main street.

We are reaching the port.

There is a huge square before reaching the port.

The beach

Water is clear and shallow so really safe for kids to swim around.

Part of the port.

Tonight we have dinner reservation at Belforte which is the restaurant on top of the Belforte Tower

The bottom of the tower.

Bottom of the tower and pathway to a nice promontory.

Really nice view from here.

We are now headed to the main Square for a drink first.  Our Dinner reservation is not until 8:30pm so we have plenty of time.

The main Square

We decided to have a drink here but all the tables are taken so we are just waiting.

We got a table and Hoa ordered a Negroni and a coke for me.

Cheers!  The pigeons are pretty brave and got really close to us for food.

I am giving them some of our focaccia.

While sipping our cocktail we get to enjoy the sunset

The sun is going down slowly....

The sun is disappearing behind the mountain.
